Get ready for a new adventure! Discover wool applique and get stitching!

Our wall of hand dyed wool, threads and patterns has been steadily growing these past few weeks. Our patterns include table runners, pillows, candle mats and some stitchery. Some are very primitive and others more formal. It is hard to decide what to do first.

But it’s really all about the WOOL! Oh my, our gorgeous hand dyed wool is from Moondance Color Company. Rich colors, perfectly dyed to create exactly the look we wanted. Moondance has been dyeing wool for rug hookers and fiber artists since 1981, so we were confident in our choice of their wools. We were not disappointed!

Complimenting the wool are the hand dyed Perle Cotton threads from Valdani. The rich painted like shading of these threads will enhance your work.

To get it all started, we will be holding a “Stitch Workshop” this Saturday from 1-3:30pm. The response has been unbelievable and we look forward to hosting a monthly workshop devoted just to applique. If you are unable to join us this time, stay tuned and we will announce future workshops on our blog and Facebook page.

The Snow!

Oh well, we almost got through winter unscathed! Tonight’s snow will force the cancellation of Wednesday evening knitting!
Hope everyone stays safe and warm, and we will start again next week with not only better weather, but a brand new month!

Buttery soft merino superwash in a DK weight!
We are changing up our line of basic yarns here in the shop, and first to arrive is Cascade 220 Superwash Sport. Now the versatility of Cascade 220 is available in a superwash sport weight version with great colors that are perfect for baby sweaters, hats, mittens or just about anything else that you would want to knit in a machine washable DK weight yarn!
We also added a few free patterns over on the right, courtesy of Cascade Yarns.

We’re Back!

What a wacky fall we are having so far! Last weekend’s freaky Nor’easter Snow Storm quickly became scary and troublesome for most folks in New England. Here in central Mass, we had several inches of heavy wet snow which quickly brought down the trees and took out the power. Saturday night was a long dark night listening to the trees break and crash all around. We were very lucky not to sustain any damage to our building, some near by neighbors were not so lucky. What we didn’t know on that Sunday morning, was that we would be without the power for 7 long days! But we are a resilient bunch and with the lights now back on, we are getting back to normal and will be open for business with our regular business hours on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing all our customers and students again.
Internet knitters: If you have placed an order with us recently and have not heard from us, please know we are working hard to pack all of the orders so that they can be shipped out first thing on Monday. Send us an email if you have any concerns.
Local knitters: We would love to hear your stories about how you made it through this wacky snow storm and how knitting may have helped you keep your sanity. I know for me it did just that! (I knitted two kid’s sweaters using a LED head-lamp made by Coleman. What a great product!)

In this picture you can barely see down the road. The trees had pulled down the wires and that is a bulldozer trying to clear the debris so a car could pass. Sadly it was quite sometime before you could even get out because trees were blocking both ends of the road. So many great people got together and cleared the way for everyone.

Norah Gaughan Vol 9

Looking through the new Norah Gaughan pattern book, it is increasingly difficult to decide which beautiful design to knit first!
While we are waiting for the remainder of our Blackstone Tweed colors to arrive, I took a closer look at “Aeneas” which is a cropped, cabled cardigan.
(Pattern #14 in the book) You can see all of the great designs in this booklet by browsing the gallery.

Aeneas is worked in Peruvia, which is a new yarn addition for us, and the yarn just keeps calling to me!

Peruvia is 100 % Peruvian Highland wool which is surprisingly soft.
With enticing solid and heather shades, it is easy to see why it’s just perfect for the rich cabling detail in the sweater.
Each 100 gram skeins has 174 yards, so the yardage goes along way.
Aeneas is sized to fit: 30(34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54)” and requires 6(7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10) skeins.
Now I have to pick a color….

Summer Knitting

When it’s time to plan my spring- summer knitting projects, I always think of soft, light yarns that drape easy and are cool to wear. Lace work comes to mind, but this year I have been looking for simple designs that won’t take all summer to knit. I wanted simple and chic. I found just that in the pattern line from c2knits. The more I looked, the more I liked and knew these patterns had to come into the shop.

The anytime “Miley Tee” looked perfect for my first of many projects, but I was searching for the right yarn.
It is pictured in Berroco’s Seduce, something we didn’t stock. The yarn kept calling… Need I say more? There are now 8 wonderful shades of Seduce & Seduce Colors on our shelves.
How to choose? Each one is a unique corded strand of SINuous color in the perfect summer-time blend of rayon, linen and silk.

I think I will be knitting many Miley Tees or perhaps the classy ruched front topper called Miyoko.

I am seeing a great future for Seduce…

New Spring Arrivals

After a very long winter, spring is beginning to arrive. Our snow is melting and the days are a bit longer. New spring yarns from Rowan and Nashua Handknits have arrived.

The new Rowan Savannah Collection and Savannah yarn have created quite a stir. The book has already sold out, but not to worry, more books have been ordered.

The Savannah Collection epitomizes the key trend for relaxed, easy to wear knits that drape and fit the body. The brochure features open worked stitches and simple crochet in little summer tops, beach cover ups and draping cardigans. The yarn is mostly cotton with a silk wrap giving it a subtle texture when knit. Even the simplest of stitches look fabulous in this yarn.

Holiday Food Drive Results!
