Lace Weight yarns may also include some fingering weight yarns and threads. They have a gauge range of 33-40 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using US000 (1.5mm) to US1 (2.5mm) needles.
Category 0 in the standard yarn weight system.
Lace weight yarns are usually knitted on larger needles to create lacy openwork patterns. Accordingly a gauge range is difficult to determine.
Always follow the gauge stated in the pattern.

Novelty yarns are just that... a novelty! They can be knit alone or carried along with another yarn. They knit at a wide variety of gauges.

Sock and Fingering weight yarns have a gauge range of 27-32 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using US1 (2.25mm) to US3 (3.25mm) needles.
Category 1 in the standard yarn weight system.

Sport Weight yarns have a gauge range of 23 -26 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using US3 (3.25mm) to US5 (3.75mm) needles.
Category 2 in the standard yarn weight system.

Double Knitting weight yarns may also include some light worsted weight yarns. They have a gauge range of 21-24 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using US5 (3.75mm) to US7 (4.5mm) needles.
Category 3 in the standard yarn weight system.

Worsted Weight yarns have a gauge range of 16-20 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using US7 (4.5mm) to US9 (5.5mm) needles.
Category 4 in the standard yarn weight system.

Bulky Weight yarns have a gauge range of 12-15 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using U9 (5.5mm) to US11 (8mm) needles.
Category 5 in the standard yarn weight system.

Super Bulky Weight yarns have a gauge range of 6-11 stitches per 4" in stockinette stitch, generally using a US11 (8mm) or larger needle.
